My human rights fairytale...
As Invisible Children Great Lakes Spring 2012 Roadie Tim Fleming calls it, I’m heading off to my “Human Rights Fairy Tale Adventure” in less than FIVE days! Aside from the packing (and proofreading finishing my paper), I’m all set to get my butt on that plane and head to Europe for a week. I can hardly contain my excitement for spring break. Thanks again, so much, for...

I love the reaction,
I get when people ask me if I have any spring break plans. And I reply, “I do.” Which of course, leads them to ask, “where are you going?” And I say, “Europe.” Updates on my trip to the Hague! My and Caitlin’s research proposal was accepted, meaning we’ll be one of 20 presentations at the International Criminal Court Student Network’s...

For anyone who doesn’t know, I’m a huge advocate of the non-profit Invisible Children, which works to end child soldiering in central East Africa. As part of my on-campus involvement, I’ve been invited to attend a conference in March at The Hague- the International Criminal Court’s headquarters in the Netherlands. As part of this conference, I’ve submitted a...

I got a Kindle for Christmas. Now what to read?
This is my summer 2011 reading list, kind of. I’ve added a few more books throughout the fall, but I figured I’d repost it and ask for more suggestions as to what new novels I can put on my newly acquired Amazon Kindle Touch. Suggest away! (Note: Don’t suggest Harry Potter. I’ve already read all of them at least 9348579 times each. Also, don’t suggest Twilight if you...

2011 Christmas list. :)
A 100 percent tax deductible donation to Invisible Children The rose bracelet; Invisible Children iPhone headphones A Krochet Kids hat (preferably the Betty, in gray) A donation to Toys for Tots  I don’t know why people insist on buying into the horrible consumerism of America. I’d love donations to charity in my name and fair-trade gifts benefitting third-world countries so much...

This is a story I wrote for The Grand Blanc News, a once-weekly paper published by The Flint Journal. It was posted online Dec. 14, and is scheduled to run in print Dec. 18. It was one of my favorites because the students were so passionate about their chosen cause of helping African families out of poverty, something I’m very passionate about as well.

DONATE HERE. SAVE LIVES. END A WAR. →
You guys, Invisible Children is trying to raise A MILLION DOLLARS by the end of today. Please, help us out. Donate here! If you can’t donate, REBLOG! I promise, this is so much better than memes about Bennett or moving GIFs. I care about this organization more than I care about almost anything, and it would mean so much if you would help me reach my very high goal of $2,500 by December 15 to...

More Fourth Estate sponsors
Sometimes, coming from a small town can be a good thing. The entire community will continue to support you in everything you do, even if you’re 200-some miles away. I got another sponsorship check today- $50 from the Clinton Theatre, and a pass for a free movie. The support of so many businesses and organizations means so much to me. I can’t wait to start making my thank you cards...

Fourth Estate update!
I heard back from one of the 28 businesses, organizations and people I wrote to, requesting sponsorship money for my trip to San Diego for Invisible Children’s Fourth Estate. State Farm Insurance by Scott Campbell (ie: my parents insurance company for the past 19 years) gave me a check for $50. And while the Clinton High School Alumni Association (ie: my former high school) was unable to...

Fourth Estate scholarship!
I just got a phone call from the Invisible Children office in San Diego. I was just awarded a $300 scholarship to Fourth Estate! So lucky. This is more than double what I initially requested, which was just between $100 and $150.
